Christianity & IntelligenceReed College has been widely regarded as a campus with a pro-atheist sentiment and an anti-religious outlook of the world. T-shirts that display the cachet of the college advertise atheism as a concept of paramount importance. The aim of this psychological battleground was to determine whether students of Reed College implicitly associated Christianity with un science and atheism with intelligence. Numerous inexplicit Association Tests (IATs) have been used to determine whether or not people have underlying biases toward particular racial or social groups. Based on the speed of responses when associated with one ethnic group or another, one is able to determine just what sort of hidden biases may exist in the estimation of the subject. Especially intriguing in this case is the idea that Christians may be construed as less intelligent than atheists on Reeds campus. How does this construal, if present, affect salmagundi at Reed and the acceptance of vario us social and religious groups? Is in that respect a certain degree to which individuals who cherish religious beliefs are ignored collectible to their association with Christianity? The goal of this study is to make a determination as to whether there is an association with intelligence and belief in a Christian God. This study will determine whether this association, if existent, is explicit or implicit, or both. Using an IAT, we will present various words associated with atheism and Christianity in addition to words associated with intelligence and stupidity. My hypothesis is that there will be a certain degree of underlying bias that views Christians as less intelligent individuals than atheists.The participants for this study were twelve students in the Intro Psycholog... ...ill feel less welcome here. Thus, religious and intellectual diversity are curbed due to various implicit and explicit associations. It is somewhat comforting to screw that the research was limited in t he fact that only a small sample size could be taken. Perhaps if an entire sample of the campus could have been measured, we would be able to find the direct implications of the research. As it happens, it would be very interesting to discuss and explore other modes that may limit diversity at Reed. Is there an implicit association with Republicans and non-intelligence? Do Reedies value the opinions of people from different social and ethnic groups less through implicit or even explicit associations? And does this give a direct influence on those interested in matriculating at the college? These questions would be interesting to explore in future tests of association.

Doing this research paper didnt really help me find anything extraordinary about the word magic. I bonny much knew what the word magic meant, from the comic books I read and the television I watch. It did however, make me view the word in more depth. Dont get me wrong, Im not implying in any way that the word magic, is dull, because it is just the opposite. Im simply stating that because of my fascination with the subject of magic, I am already familiar with its background and capabilities. I chose the word magic because the concept of any human being possessing unexplainable, supernatural powers intrigues me to the point where I deprivation I had been endowed with those powers. If I had to choose a favorite I would have to go with the two poems I obtained from the Concordance to Shakespeare and the Grangers king to Poetry. It all driveed when we received our word list. I looked for a word that I interested me, and that I thought would be easy to find information on. I guess, fo r the most part I was right. All the references available in our school library were pretty easy to find such as the Rogets Thesaurus, the full-length Dictionary, and surprisingly the Book of Quotations and the Concordance to the Bible. On one day there, at the St. Paul library four were down and there were four to go, which wasnt as well shabby for the first day. I figured I was doing well getting half of my list taken care of before Christmas vacation, and then during vacation I would finish the job.Well as any normal teenager would agree the plan of doing work during vacation vanished as soon the final bell rang to start vacation. On the first day back to school I took a trip to a local library near my house. I already knew that I wouldnt find everything that I needed, but I checked it out any ways. I was only able to find the Oxford English Dictionary, but luckily I bumped into my wonderful English teacher Ms. Frausto who informed me that the Uptown Whittier Library would have the sufficient amount of information I needed to complete my research. In deed, my very wise mentor was right. I did find the rest of the items I was in search of, which were a periodical, a poem, and an excerpt from a Shakespeare play.
